Heading out on the Tour du Mont Blanc and have a free day in Chamonix? Here’s a great suggestion for something to do with your day from Jodie, our Mont Blanc Specialist.
For some of the most spectacular views of Mont Blanc and the Alps as well as experiencing of a great engineering feat, a ride up to Aiguille du Midi should definitely be on your list.
Aiguille du Midi is a peak which translates literally as “Needle in the Midday”. An incredible two stage cable car with the world’s highest vertical ascent, plus an elevator dug out from the rock takes you to a viewing terrace at 3842m above sea level. The terrace is perched on top of the peak and provides an uninterrupted view of Mont Blanc. It is the closest you can get to Mont Blanc without doing any alpine climbing. It is hard to describe in words how dramatic the whole experience is. As the pictures show it is not for those with a fear of heights.
The cable car is open all year and it is recommended to book in advance online during the peak season.
